The Ballarat Racewalking Club - History
Ballarat has long been a centre of excellence in athletics, with a
proud history of producing elite runners and walkers.
Of the walkers, some of the finer ones include
| Graeme Nichols | Australian Champion |
| Alison Nichols | Australian Champion World Record Holder |
| Willi Sawall | Australian Champion Commonwealth Record Holder Commonwealth Games medallist Olympic representative |
| Jared Tallent | Commonwealth Games Gold medallist Olympic silver and bronze medallist Australian Record Holder |
| Rachel Tallent | Australian Champion Australian Representative - Racewalking World Cup |
It was obvious that the city would seek to build on this success and
form its own club and that's what happened in July 1995 when a group of
local racewalkers decided to promote and grow racewalking in the
Ballarat and District area in the best possible way - by forming the
Ballarat Racewalking Club.
Daryl Biggin was the main driving force at that time and he remains
at the helm 16 years later, generously donating his time and expertise.
